Youth in Action
Providence, RI

Invitation Front
Challenge: To create an invitation to a Golf Tournament Fundraiser

Solution: Seemed logical to impose the logo right onto the golf ball, and lots of blue skies to indicate a good time ahead.

Case Statement
Challenge:To create a Case For Support for potential corporate and private funders combining the vigor and energy of this youth-led organization in a format that at the same time conveyed its credible and responsible mission. Solution: Using a photo on the cover of Youth In Action membership shows the many faces of leadership, and again, inside balancing the text with photos to demonstrate some of the activities in which YIA members are engaged.

Card Front
Challenge: To create a direct mail specifically targeting those who, in fundraisers jargon, gave Last Year But Unfortunately Not This year…. politely reminding them that they had previously supported the organization in prior years and gently reminding them not to forget Youth In Action this year.

Front Cover

Challenge: An ongoing challenge for the Athenaeum (established n 1838!) is to impart the stewardship inherent in the organizations mission while providing readers with 21st Century titles, programs, and state-of-the-art technology. Dorcas Place
Providence, RI

Annual Report
Challenge: To create an engaging cover for the Annual Report

Solution: Among the many effective programs at Dorcas Place is The Clothing Collaborative to expand its school-to-work transition support services for Dorcas Place students. The overall goal of the Clothing Collaborative is to assist low-income, unemployed and underemployed individuals in overcoming barriers to training and employment.
When walking through the building one day I wandered into the room that holds the clothing that has been donated, including this wonderful collection of hats, recently donated by the widow of their owner and now hanging above the clothing racks all around the room. We decided they would make an exciting design tool throughout the Annual Report, symbolizing the diverse and richness of the constituents who benefit from this wonderful program.

Cover
Challenge: To present the yearly state-of-the-organization report in a style that demonstrates the organizations commitment to its mission and helps both constituents and funders see in the pages that follow how that mission has been met.

Inside Pages

Challenge: Dorcas Place Adult and Family Learning Center has been giving low-income Rhode Islanders educational opportunities needed to realize their full potential and climb the ladder to success—through literacy, workplace training, college preparatory programs, and employment. Dorcas Place wanted to distribute a Year Book at it’s Graduation ceremony to showcase the accomplishments of it’s graduates, while also creating a presentation for potential funders that highlights the vast breadth and scope of the many programs under this organization’s umbrella. And a journal – for fundraising and a show of program support. Solution: Design this 126-page booklet with a graphic element that presented each of the many divergent programs under one common theme. The typeface selected was done so to “mimic” the college lettering used for varsity teams – a subtle nod to the amazing accomplishment of each Dorcas Place student.
